JAI Energy is proud to be a Wyoming-based Bitcoin miner and mining solutions provider.

JAI Energy’s members all come from an oilfield background. Co-Founders Justin Ballard and Ryan Leachman were partners and managing executives in an O&G exploration company with operations in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. They drilled an exploration well that had no midstream infrastructure nearby, and the economics to set it in place were not feasible. The team was required to find a way to reduce flaring of the methane on site, or else the well would have to be shut in to follow State regulations. In 2019, the team deployed its first Bitcoin mining container to capture the flared gas, convert the gas to electricity, and produce Bitcoin off the stranded energy.

JAI Energy combines the knowledge of what it takes to run a successful O&G company with the expertise of building and operating a Bitcoin mine.

Justin Ballard

Justin is a founding partner of JAI Energy LLC bringing his extensive experience raising capital and working in the oil and gas business to the Bitcoin mining industry.

Prior to starting JAI, Justin worked for 11 years as an attorney and landman at multiple operators in basins across the country. Formerly, Justin served as the Chief Legal Officer and Vice President of Land at Century Oil and Gas, LLC, a private equity backed Powder River Basin focused operator out of Houston, Texas. While at Century, Justin successfully negotiated and closed on multiple acquisitions valued at over $16 million and was also responsible for handling all legal and land related operational matters. Justin also previously served as General Counsel and Vice President of Acquisitions and Divestitures at Sponte Resources; a Dallas based operator targeting production of natural gas in East Texas. He also spent time at Indigo Minerals and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation where he gained experience in everything from midstream and gathering contracts to complex acquisitions and divestitures. Overall, during his career, Justin has successfully closed on over $150 million worth of acquisitions and funding commitments through private equity groups or other private capital sources.

Justin likes to spend his free time outdoors, fishing and traveling with his family. He and Aubrey, his wife of nearly 17 years have two children, 14-year-old Isabella and 10-year-old Jackson.

Ryan Leachman

Ryan Leachman is a founding partner and COO of JAI Energy LLC. Prior to starting JAI, Ryan was the VP of Operations for Century Oil and Gas, LLC – a private equity backed Powder River Basin operator. Ryan has experience in engineering/operations/management of oil and gas drilling, completions, production, and facilities in both conventional and unconventional assets for multiple oil and gas exploration and production companies. Ryan’s main introduction into the value of Bitcoin mining came when searching for alternatives to prevent natural gas flaring from a recently drilled exploration well he was managing that lacked any midstream infrastructure. A bitcoin mine was implemented on the exploration well that allowed the well to meet all flaring requirements and to keep the well online and producing oil. Ryan is a firm believer of a “boots on the ground” and “learn from the bottom up” approach to his work and management. Ryan was born and raised in a small oilfield/farming community in rural Alberta, Canada. He finished his Petroleum Engineering degree at Montana Tech, has lived all over Texas, and is now a very proud resident of Sheridan, Wyoming.
